Defence Forces application document checklist

Create a document checklist for the competition you entered. Record both what is required and whether the official instructions ask for an original, a copy, a particular certificate or evidence at a specific stage.

Save your work in your PSP account. Applications are submitted through the official Defence Forces website.

Build the list from the terms

Begin with the application and invitation rather than a generic internet checklist. Save the relevant paragraphs and mark when each document is needed. The 2026 Army cadetship terms include identification, original educational evidence where applicable and an original long-form birth certificate for interview.

A long-form birth certificate is a specific document request. Do not assume a short certificate or a passport automatically substitutes for it. If an original is unavailable, ask the recruitment contact about the accepted process before the appointment.

Match qualification evidence to your route

School-leaver, graduate and specialist applicants may need different evidence. Check subject and grade records, degree details, overseas qualification recognition and any required matriculation exemption. A results screenshot may not meet an instruction requesting original documentary evidence.

Use the name and details that identify you consistently. Where records differ, identify the discrepancy early and ask what supporting evidence is required. Avoid altering a document or inventing an explanation to make it fit.

Keep a personal preparation record

For each item, note the source instruction, required form, stage, location of the document and unresolved question. Keep copies of your own submitted information so that dates and qualifications remain consistent if asked again.

Store identity material securely for the official process. PSP aptitude and interview practice do not need your passport, birth certificate or vetting records. Use general labels in a planning exercise rather than entering sensitive numbers.

Check again when the invitation arrives

The invitation can add practical details such as what to bring, the venue and a contact route for problems. Read it as a whole. Assemble the documents ahead of time, then check the pack against the named list.

A prepared pack removes an avoidable source of stress, but it does not imply acceptance. The recruiting authority decides whether the evidence meets the conditions, and a new competition can change its requirements.

Questions about this stage

Should I upload my ID to PSP?

No. Keep identity and qualification documents for the official application process.

Can this checklist replace the invitation?

No. It helps you organise the exact documents requested by your current terms and invitation.

These guides explain the preparation process. Check your current competition booklet and invitation before relying on a requirement or date.
